Filipinos around the world will surely be proud, since Journey's current lead vocalist is pure-blooded Filipino Arnel Pineda. It's Pineda's voice that soars and rocks on that hit album.
The best thing about news like this is that it will either shut up or rile even more all those insane Pineda critics and naysayers on YouTube.

June 10, 2008, film.com (USA), excerpt from "The Sopranos One Year Later: It Goes On and On…"
Besides the Sopranos bump, Neil Schon and company took other measures to get to this success. First, they needed a new singer — one who more closely sounded like Perry to take advantage of the opportunity at hand. Schon found his prize via YouTube — the lead singer of a Phillipino cover band called Zoo. Arnel Pineda, whose incredible back story requires its own "Don't Stop Believing" song, leapt at the challenge, and the band went about recording an album in the style of Escape. They still didn't have a label, but they decided to follow The Eagles' lead and release the album exclusively through Wal-Mart, using no record label at all. And now they're in the Top Ten again. Wonder how record labels are interpreting that ending? Well … it's not actually an ending — if there's anything we learned from The Sopranos, it's that it goes on and on and on and on.)

Journey's Comments About Arnel Pineda
These are bits and pieces collected from several sources. More will be added as they're received via Google Alerts.
December 5, 2007:
In an interview, Neal Schon (guitar) said, "I was frustrated about not having a singer, so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours. I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted. After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true. I thought, 'he can't be that good.' But he is that good, he's the real deal and so tremendously talented. Arnel doesn't sound synthetic and he's not emulating anyone. I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him that night, but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter."
Jonathan Cain (keyboards) added, "Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey. His personality is very well-suited to our music. He's a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel's soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound."
Neal Schon agreed, "We feel reborn. I think there's a lot of chemistry between the five of us. At first we were going to go into the studio and just write 4 songs, but now it's escalated to a lot of great new and diverse material. The stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone's so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel."
December 7, 2007:
Kevin Shirley (producer) wrote this on the "diary" portion of his website: "Just got back from Vegas last night, after mixing seven new Journey songs. They are outstanding. Here's the press release below. For the record, I think Arnel is "the business!" - the guy can really sing! He handles the ballads with SO much heart, and belts the rockers as hard, and melodically, as anyone I have heard. The songs are sensational - wonderfully crafted and deep, and so focused, you may wonder where they all came from. And I'm being serious……. off to the airport again…. to London to see Zep.
March 12, 2008:
In a podcast interview at KNBR Radio (680/1050 AM), Jonathan Cain described the upcoming "Revelation" album: "We recorded our greatest hits with our brand new singer from the Philippines, Arnel Pineda, and it's unbelievable when you listen to it. We paid a lot of attention to the details because everybody loves those hits and we weren't about to step all over it. We've got that and a brand new CD as well, and then there's a bonus DVD of what the band looks like now, about an hour of songs… It's a 3-disc package… We're excited because we think Arnel is the future for our franchise… We knew that if we were ever gonna move on, we had to get somebody that was really gonna be our future and sound like Journey is supposed to sound… I think Journey fans are in for a real treat."

Events Leading Up to Journey's Revelation
Arnel Pineda first appeared as the lead singer of Journey on February 21, 2008, at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival held at the Quinta Vergara Amphitheater in Viña del Mar, Chile. (Videos of the concert in Chile are available on YouTube.) The band also performed at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago on February 23rd, with Peter Frampton and Earth, Wind and Fire. A third concert at Viña del Mar Casino in Valparaíso, scheduled for February 24th, was cancelled due to electrical problems.
Journey returned to the United States for a private Remax Convention event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on March 6, 2008, and then performed at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, to a sold out audience on March 8, 2008. The second appearance was the basis for the DVD to be included in the album set titled "Revelation".
In May of 2008, Arnel Pineda and Journey appeared by request on "Ellen", the talk show hosted by Ellen Degeneres. They sang live, performing "Separate Ways" and "After All These Years" (a new single) and the audience gave them a standing ovation. Ellen Degeneres herself heaped praises on the band. They also appeared on the syndicated "Rockline" radio show broadcast throughout the nation showcasing "Revelation" and answering caller's questions. (Videos of the appearance on "Ellen" are available on YouTube, as well as Arnel's versions of Journey hits like "Separate Ways" and "Faithfully".)
Globally-syndicated US magazine GQ also picked Pineda as subject for a special feature in its June 2008 issue. The piece is exhaustive (14 pages on the web) and considering that we're talking about GQ here, it says a lot about the heights Arnel has reached musically.
The majority of the comments on YouTube have been positive. There are a few that claim to be die-hard Journey fans who criticize Arnel Pineda and want Steve Perry back. Comments in other web places fall just short of being racist.
